IOP to concentration conversion

The native output of the neural nets are inherent optical properties (absorption and scattering) of the water. Their magnitude relates to mass concentrations of water constituents, like Chl-a pigment or total suspended matter. The conversion of IOPs into mass concentration depends on the specific properties of the water and may depend on local conditions. The C2RCC processors includes a parametric conversion of the IOPs output of the neural net into mass concentration of Chl and TSM:

TSM = tsm_fac * iop_btot^tsm_exp
The processor is delivered with default values for the parameters. They have been derived primarily from regression analysis of NOMAD data, complemented by data from various ship cruises. Because of the global coverage of NOMAD, the defaults are globally applicable. However, conversion factors derived from local measurements may give better results.
The defaults are:
